How Yoga Impacts Impulse Control

Fun (and amazing) fact: The average person makes 35,000 decisions a day. Studies show that about 50% of those are impulse decisions!

With the world at our fingertips and stress levels being at all time high, impulse control can feel like a BIG ask.

Did you know that the practice we teach here at PPY can improve your ability to make practice impulse control, leading to more aligned daily choices and increased confidence and well-being?

Here are 3 reasons why a consistent, mindful yoga practice can be incredibly impactful for impulse control:

  1. Mindfulness. Yoga is, in essence, a practice of self awareness and presence. It is the observation of what you are doing and how you are doing it, which can help curb impulsivity.

  2. Emotional Regulation. Yoga is an opportunity to notice thoughts and emotions without letting them take over. This is powerful for building resilience and emotional fortitude.

  3. Discipline. Yoga requires body and breath control, mental focus and is all about process over outcome. These skills are valuable in making clear, intentional choices.
